Kiss Of The Vampire (Genre)

Genre One of the genres expressed in the "Kiss Of The Vampire" poster is Horror. We can identify this due to the obvious connotations and genre paradigms of... Bats. A full moon. A creepy castle. Vampires. Blood. Its night time. The weather is mildly misty. The Sub Genre can be seen as 'Classic Horror'. We know this because of the age of the film (1963) and the illustrations shown are iconography of Halloween, specifically Vampires. If we categorised this film poster into a hybrid genre it would most likely be Romantic Horror. This can be seen through the main characters presented on the mise-en-scene. The woman are presented as desirable and seductive which is clear relation to romance and the colour red used may not always mean blood it can also show connotations of love.

Key Assessment One

1: Hermeneutic Symbolic Proairetic 2: The type of way it addresses a person 3: The choice of Language 4: Reception Theory Media Language Question: Media Language can show multiple meanings through the use of categorising the Media product into a certain Genre. For example, The bold and vintage Tide advert possesses a genre of romance and desire in order for the consumer to fall in love with the product like the Lady has on the print advert. The close up of the main image shows the Woman's emotion which is extremely content and happy while also expressing her true compassion in the action of her physically hugging the box of Tide. The way the advert is presented is slightly indoctrinating as the characters shown state bold and over exaggerated opinions that convince a reader that Tide is the best cleaning product ever. The audience responding will almost definitely be Women as no Men are featured on the advert and the stereotype of Women staying at home was increasi

Adidas Advert: The Lady had broken a Hegemonic rule by having having hairy legs and the internet went to extreme cases of hate to show power. You're so money supermarket Advert: The advert has caused controversy as the main character went against the stereotypical view of Men. Stuart Hall (Reception Theory): Key Term: Preferred Reading The 'right' reading of text, which can be enforced by positioning. This concept has to be approached carefully: often texts intentionally have multiple meanings/readings, and of course, as we have discovered, audiences can potentially get whatever they want out of a text. Hall categorised audience response into three separate groups. These can help us to understand whether or not an audience sticks to the preferred reading, or if they decide to make their own decision as to how to decode a text. Dominant Reading is when the audience agrees with the message of the text. Oppositional Reading is when the audience

Exam Preparation

Things to remember: Read and answer the question in detail and make sure you show an understanding of what has been asked and write about everything it tells you to explain. Correct Terminology. Underline/Highlight the important keywords in questions. Arrange and structure your answer into paragraphs. Include Introduction at the start and a Conclusion at the end. Point, Evidence, Argument. Introducing is presenting your point and you can conclude your point at the beginning. Define key terms during your introduction. E.g: Media Language, Genre, Audience, Ideology. Include Argument in our introduction and create a definite point of view. Show Context in your Introduction. (The intention/general background of the Media Product, E.g: Brief historical context). Organise your paragraphs into different points made about Genre, Audience, Ideology. Example will be gathered from the Advert.

Media Products, Industries and Audience

Cannot sell a media product without an audience. Audience can be broadly categorised through demographics. McDonald's Pickle Advert: Demographic: Younger couple/family. McDonald's is aimed at younger people. It is no longer advertised towards Kids more due to its health issues and parents don't want their children to be encouraged by the company's marketing. Stereotypical romantic gesture. What happens when you watch too much TV/Youtube/video-games? Little engagement of social life. Strains eyes. "You get square eyes". Lower your self esteem.  You become mindless, Can harm your brain. Albert Bandura (Theorist): TV, Youtube and Video-games are all an example of mass media. The Effect Model aka The Hypodermic Needle Model: Ideas, Beliefs and Values being injected into the audience's brain. E.g: If you watch a violent film, you become violent. This very straight forward theory has an element of truth. Passive In

Introduction to Audience

Why Is Media Studies So Preoccupied With Audience? All Media is aimed at a certain audience. Without an Audience it cannot be sold. Generating a reaction from the audience to different Media Products. Target Audience: The specific group that the producer aims to captivate with their product. Generally, the target audience very specific.  Primary Audience: The first/main audience Secondary Audience: The second group considered by the producer . T.A.P: Text, Audience, Producer. Arcetype: A type of character that appears time and time again. (Cookie-cutter character) Tzvetan Todorov: Narratology Equilibrium: State of balance. Disequilibrium: Something goes wrong. One plot is called a single strand of narrative. Mulitiple plots is called a multi strand of narrative. Examples of Equilibrium: The Only Way Is Essex: Argument. Rick And Morty: Wedding episode, secret agent, massive shootout, loads of planets, space police, galactic federation. Advantages of narrative equilibrium: We can apply it very simply. We can use it on a macro and micro level. Very flexible theory. Disadvantages o

Learning Conversation 1

What do you think has gone particularly well so far this year?  I have already learnt lots of important terms and their definitions and i have started to use them in pieces of analysation. I find the lesson engaging, interesting and fun. What are your strengths? Being able to contribute in class when asked to. What is stopping you from achieving your goals? What threats might you face,  (for example not enough time, lack of organisation, pressure from other subjects...) Lack of Organisation such as keeping track of when Homework is due and being able to balance Media with my other subjects like English in which i receive a lot of Homework from. Comparing Advertisement Genres

Charity Advertising High end clothing advertising Repertoire of Elements Use of subtle humour to allow someone reading the advert to develop a strong and more thoughtful understanding of the message behind the advert. Using imagery of horror (a common use in charity adverts) to face the viewer with harsh reality while contradicting it with the illusion we all are possessed under. The have used the common style of romance and riches to present their label in the first advert, this is a very typical high end clothing advertisement. The second advert uses intertextuality to gain more readers interest by using a famous face on their print. However they still stick to the common style and genre of High End clothing advertisement. Mode of Address The first Charity print speaks directly towards the viewer to support the fact that their contribution can make a difference. The second advert is indirectly saying we
