Intertextuality

When a producer of a media product conveys a reference to another media product.

Gives the consumers something to relate to. It is primarily for the audiences benefit.
The producer can hint towards an ideology but not bluntly convey the message.
For example, the Simpsons is primarily targeting children, however it uses intertextuality to hint at interests for adults such as the Clockwork Orange.

Les Revenants:
Julie is watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre which gives intertextuality and allows the consumer to relate to the character.

Les Revenants is a sub genre of Zombie films
The use of the child in Les Revenants is intertextual to many supernatural horror films like Insidious or The Omen.

Les Revenants also features the sub genre of Teen Romance, which can show intertextuality.

The riptide music video references 1970s Italian Horror movie. Which is a binary opposition to the song in order to convey conflict.  

The connotation of red is used in the background of the close up with the gun and blood with the woman performing.

contra puntal sound: sound that doesn't belong with scenes presented. For example Vance Joy's jolly song contradicts the creepy and horror music video.

The master shot of the lady performing: Through out the music video, her make up deteriorates and blood appears on her neck. Reference to slasher movies like Halloween with the low key lighting and blood.

Humans:

Classic music, binary opposition to the sci-fi 

Intertextuality to terminator with the use of synthetics.
The full moon shows intertextuality to classic horror like the werewolf.
The establishing montage  
The movement in Anita looking at the moon infers she has character which gives reference to films like Ex-machina. 
The theme sequence gives intertextuality to sci-fi, medical dramas etc.
Loose vague intertextuality to sitcoms with the first scene after the theme being heavily sci-fi, now being set in a modern standard human home. For example the establishing close up shot of the landline phone in the foreground and the family photo in the background.

Woman and Adbusters

The representation of black people in each magazine. Woman magazine's ideology is that there are no black people with wealth or luxury but not featuring any black female models. Adbusters uses black people in order to express the countries of poverty where the population is predominately black. Binary opposition between the representation of black people and white people is shown in multiple articles of Adbusters and Woman. Adbusters Bottle flip flops are symbolic codes of poverty. Louboutin commodity fetishism is a binary opposition with the mise-en-scene of poverty. Red soles are always in season is a hermeneutic code to make the audience wonder whether the tagline is actually talking about the shoes or the damaged soles of the feet accompanying image.
